history of wing chun

Wing Chun was created after the fall of a Southern Shaolin Temple by the Manchu's. As the story goes, Ng Mui, one of the five survivors of this Temple revised her fighting system. The system was created to teach students a close range fighting system in a shorter period of time, so they can fight the Manchus. Ng Mui passed the system to a female disciple named Yim, Wing - Chun.  Wing Chun's husband Leung, Bok - Cho, who also was a Southern Shaolin Kung - Fu Master, added the weapons of the system. He added the six and a half point pole ( Luk Dim Poon Quan) and the Butterfly Swords ( Bat Jam Do). The pole ( Staff) was used for long range fighting, while the Butterfly Swords were used for close range fighting. The Wing Chun style itself contains of four traditional forms taught on separate levels of skill and advancement. These forms are: Siu Leem Tao ( Little Idea ), Chum Kiu ( Crossing the Bridge ), Bui Jee ( Flying Thrusting Fingers ) and Mook Jong ( Wooden Dummy ).
